Sea Salt FAQ’s

1. How many guests does Sea Salt accommodate?
Sea Salt accommodates up to 8 guests. There’s a king bedroom, queen bedroom and bedroom with built-in beds (a full and bunkbed – for a total of up to 4 guests in the third bedroom). There are no sleeper sofas, rollaway beds, etc.

2. Can we pay to have additional guests?
We do not allow more than 8 guests.

3. When is the pool open? Is it heated?
The pool is open from early May to October 1. The pool is not heated.
Expect it to be chilly the first couple of weeks of May and the last couple of weeks of September. Children usually don’t mind. Adults, however, may prefer to enjoy a cocktail while lounging near the pool – or dipping their feet in. Your mileage may vary, as they say!

4. I’m in high school. Can I book Sea Salt with some of my friends?
We have a minimum rental age requirement of 25 years old. We also book only to family groups. This doesn’t mean guests have to be related – but it means we monitor closely and do not allow spring-break style stays. We’re cool, but we’re not THAT cool. 🙂

5. Do you allow pets?
We love animals! However, we also highly value having a very clean and tidy home for our guests. We do not allow pets for this reason.

6. Can you give me the exact location of the house?
For security reasons, we provide guests with the house address at the time of reservation. We are in a row of homes located directly across the street from Jennette’s Pier. If you want navigation information, put the address of Jennette’s Pier in your GPS (7223 South Virginia Dare Trail, Nags Head, NC 27959).

7. Is there a required turnover day or a minimum night’s stay?
During the summer (Memorial Day through Labor Day and sometimes through the end of September) we do require a 7-night stay with a turnover day of Saturdays only. During the fall and spring, this is not required and the required number of nights stayed will typically be 3 to 4 nights.

The best way to determine this is to check our Availability Calendar on our VRBO/HomeAway listing.  You may also use our Contact Form or send an email to amiesandoval@gmail.com to inquire about available dates and to book with us directly. We highly recommend booking with us directly to avoid the fees associated with booking at VRBO/HomeAway.

8. Do we need to check in somewhere before we go to the house?
No! We will email you 7 days prior to your arrival with a personalized code to our electronic entry lock as well as providing you with detailed Check In and Check Out instructions. This code will work only for your stay. It means you do not need to stop anywhere prior to going to the house. And, you will not need to worry about carrying keys during your stay.

9. Can we check in early?
Due to the high volume of renters and our emphasis on a very clean and organized home for your arrival, we do not guarantee an early check in during summer months. However, we typically text our guests when the home is ready – and often it is ready by 2 or 3 p.m. (the check in time is 4 p.m.). We recommend guests who are eager to get in the home plan to be on the Outer Banks by early afternoon. Grab a bite to eat, grocery shop, shop or even hit the beach – and then you’ll be nearby in case you get our text that you can enter the home early.

During the off season – typically spring and fall – we do our best to provide earlier check ins and later check outs when possible. We will always notify you of this in the email we send 7 days prior to your stay (and not sooner).

10. What happens if there’s a hurricane? Or we can’t make it for any reason? Can we get a refund?
** If there is enough time and it is not a weather or Outer Banks related issue, we do make every effort to rebook your time period should you need to cancel. If we do rebook it, we will refund you in full.**

We follow the same policy that all Outer Banks rental home companies follow. We do not provide refunds for weather, storms, hurricanes, power outages, etc. We also do not provide refunds for personal emergencies of our guests. We highly recommend you purchase trip insurance. Be sure to find coverage that will protect you in the event of bad weather and personal emergencies. Learn more about trip insurance at www.insuremytrip.com and/or consumersadvocate.org/travel/insurance and protect yourself from unexpected travel interruptions. We never travel without it!

11. How soon should we contact you to book our favorite summer week on the Outer Banks?
Soon! For summer weeks, we start booking a year to 18 months in advance. Summer weeks are typically fully booked by early spring. It is not unusual for our “regulars” to rent their next stay while they are staying at Sea Salt – or within a week or so after their stay! Off season stays do not book up quite as fast – but we hate to turn down anyone because their dates are already booked – so contact us as soon as you have your dates finalized!

12. Do you offer long-term rentals?
Yes! During the off season we are open to long term rentals. We offer discounts for stays of two weeks or more. Sea Salt Cottage is also available for long term winter rentals. Use the Contact Us online form to send us information on your dates so we can talk more.
