Activities within Walking Distance of Sea Salt:

The Beach! / Jennette’s Pier:
Our best beach access is at Jennette’s Pier because there’s also a public restroom area and showers. The beaches are wide and generally not too crowded. And, if it gets a little too hot – you can take a break under the pier itself.

Jennette’s Pier is a must see attraction. There is a small fee to walk out on the pier and the views are incredible! It’s a great learning experience as the pier is owned by North Carolina Aquariums and includes multiple large aquariums of local sea life. You’ll learn about how the pier is generating its own power thanks to those three big windmills you can see along the pier from the windows of Sea Salt. The pier has a gift shop where you’ll find local gifts and drinks/snacks for a long day at the beach. And if you need a break from the sun, find a rocking chair on the pier and relax with a cold drink!

Pro Tip: There’s no fee to sit in the rocking chairs and the benches towards the right side of the pier. We enjoy watching people on the beach hunt crabs at night or even taking in a storm from that area – and the pier is open pretty late.

If the Jennette’s Pier beach area is crowded, you can also head to another public beach access that’s about the same distance away. Cut across the street at 7/11 and you’ll see the parking lot/beach access behind it.

Whalebone Park:
Located just three houses down and on our side of the road (head in the direction of the pier, it’s right across the street from the pier) – Whalebone Park is a playground and park area with lots of equipment to keep children busy. You’ll also find a bocce and volleyball court as well as covered picnic tables. You can see the park from our back deck. This is a great way to run off energy at the end of the day while watching the sun go down!

Walking/Jogging/Bike Path:
There is a walking/jogging/bike trail across the beach road and it goes for miles in either direction. Bring your bike or running shoes – or rent them just down the street.

Super Wings:
Located on the bypass at the East Gull Street stoplight – your typical local memorabilia and beach wear. Fun for the kids and and easy walk. (Hint: Take the beach road walking path and cut over to the bypass road at East Gull Street. You won’t need to cross the bypass. We find this to be a safe walk for responsible pre-teens and teens who may want to shop for touristy goodies and bathing suits!)

7/11:
Not really an “activity” but don’t forget 7/11 for those items you forgot at home or the milk for your coffee – and for a Slurpee break on a hot beach day!

Enjoy the Ride:
Want to rent a golf cart, bike or fun “scoot coupe?” Enjoy the ride is just a couple blocks north of us on the beach road and rents all of these items. They’ll even deliver.

Causeway Water Sports:
Parasailing, Jet Ski Rentals & Tours, Pontoon Boats, Tubing, Kayaks and SUPs, and Dolphin/ Scenic Tours are all offered here!

First Flight Adventure Park:
With 14 ziplines and 50 obstacles you will have a blast here. Located at MP 15.5 in Nags Head, the park is designed for ages 6 and up and thrill seekers of varying levels.

Fishing & Crabbing Classes for Kids:
The NC Aquarium offers a fishing and a crabbing class at the Roanoke Island location and at the Jennette's Pier location. Prices are reasonable and it is a fun experience.

Full Throttle Speedway:
Ready! Set! Go! Go kart racing, bumper cars and Mutiny Bay Adventure Golf are all available here! A perfect before or after dinner activity.

Jurassic Putt:
Step into the world of the prehistoric past while you play a round of golf. Next door they offer bumper boats, and you can stop in at Peace Frogs Frozen Yogurt for a treat.

Roanoke Island Marshes and Trail:
Although much of the area is an impenetrable marsh, accessible only by boat, there is a small waterfowl impoundment with a loop trail around it. To reach the parking area, go south on NC-347 from the intersection with US-64.

Shopping at the Outlets: If you get stuck with a rainy day then shopping is the answer at Outlets Nags Head. Check out some bargains and grab yourself a quick lunch at Bros.
